This page is all about adopting our second daughter, Grace!
We decided we wanted to begin the process after a family pilgrimage to Poland in mid-June, where one of our main intentions was the blessing of another child.
July 2, 2018: We submit our application to Barker Adoption Foundation, who again will be doing our home study.
July 13, 2018: Our application is accepted and we schedule the intake meeting.
July 18, 2018: Intake meeting - we have a great conversation with one of the adoption specialists at Barker, going through all the in's and out's of adopting again, advice she had for us, and getting a BIG stack of paperwork to start working through (sounds familiar ;)) Read this post to see what all we have to do.
August 29, 2018: Fire inspection passed!
September 24, 2018: We drop off all of our completed paperwork (minus one form) to Barker. Our two clearances (child support and child protective services) are sent out for processing.
October 12, 2018: The final form is sent to Barker, woot woot. Still awaiting clearances....next step, fingerprints. Then meetings with our social worker.
October 29, 2018: All clearances are in, so our paperwork is completely done!
November 10, 2018: First meeting with our social worker.
November 26, 2018: Second meeting with our social worker.
December 3, 2018: Third and final meeting with our social worker; she will now write up and submit our official home study.
January 4, 2019: Our home study is officially approved!
In the Waiting Pool: January 2019 - September, 2019
After our home study was approved, we had several commitment forms to sign and submit to the agency we're working with for matching and placement, Open Door. And they had to receive our home study and supporting documentation from Barker. We also had to prepare an online profile for Open Door's website.
January 23, 2019: All commitment paperwork is completed and we are officially in the waiting pool!
Faaaaaaaast forward.......because the waiting time moved a LOT faster with a toddler around! :)
September 30, 2019: We get a call from our local agency about a baby girl who was born on September 21, and who we might be the family for....later that day, the social worker confirms that the baby's mom chose us!
October 1, 2019: We drive to the hospital in Virginia to meet baby Grace and our life as a family of four begins! Read this post for MANY more details about how Grace came into our family!
